The Short Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) is a brief clinical guide for the dynamic assessment of seven often inter-related risks and treatability. Assessment of risks include: 1/ risk of violence to others; 2/ risk of self-harm; 3/ risk of suicide; 4/ risk of unauthorized leave; 5/ risk of substance use; 6/ risk of self-neglect; and 7/ risk of being victimized. It provides for the differential coding of positive attributes or strengths on a reasonable and manageable number of items and allows for the recording of case-specific risk factors. The START is intended for interdisciplinary use.
