A planning tool to assist Health Authorities and community organizations in BC wishing to undertake a community food assessment in their region or community.
This guide has been developed within a health context for the Community Food Action Initiative and addresses requirements outlined in the BC Ministry of Health Core Food Security Program.
More specifically the aims of this guide are to: clarify the purpose of a community food assessment - what it is and why conduct an assessment; identify the key elements and processes of a community food assessment; provide tools to assist those who are conducting community food assessments to ensure effective and efficient methods are used.
The intent of this framework is to clarify the primary role of Vancouver Coastal Health as a Regional Health Authority in addressing food security while acknowledging and partnering with other sectors. This document is intended as a foundation piece to accompany our food security profile and the annual progress report on the Food Security Model Core Program.
This resource guide is designed to assist local governments promote food security and support food systems in BC. It showcases a sample of the wide range of innovative projects being developed or supported by local governments across the province. It includes examples that are meant to pique your curiousity and inspire you to action, whether your community is just starting out or well on its way to creating a strong and healthy food system.
This presentation provides an opportunity to learn about the many components that create food security in a community. Currently, there are eight local Community Food Action Initiative committees across the health authority working to address this key determinant of health.
